The Sharp MX-C401 boasts a distinctive model number and an electrophotographic laser system, making it a digital full-color printer that stands out from the rest. The gradation for printing is on par with 256 levels, thanks to compatible printer drivers such as PCL5c, PCL6, postscript three consistent, and XPS. Additionally, supported protocols include TCP/IP, IPXSPX, NetBEUI, and EtherTalk. Interface options include both a standard USB 2.0 hi-speed port and LAN connectivity. At its maximum capacity, the printer comes with an internal standard system memory of 1 GB. Once switched on, it takes approximately 90 seconds or less to warm up and be ready for printing.

The initial color printout time clocks in at a lightning-fast 8.9 seconds or less, while black and white prints take approximately 8.0 seconds or less. As for paper storage, the main input tray boasts a capacity of up to 500 sheets of plain paper, with a recommended weight range of 16 lbs to 28 lbs. Sharp also suggests using plain, recycled, or colored paper for optimal results.

Contrarily, the bypass tray boasts a standard capacity of up to 100 sheets and accommodates an array of paper types such as recycled, plain, colored, heavy, and thin paper, as well as transparency film and envelopes. Additionally, this machine is equipped with a duplex module, enabling seamless double-sided printing.
